IMPORTANT
This page was only created as an example page to help communicate the requirements for this lab.
You must create something on your own for this lab -- not join this network.
After following the requirements, should you decide to use the ning.com service, that is perfectly acceptable, but you must create a separate network of your own.
Please contact me with any questions about the expectations for this lab.
Lab Objective
Basic: create a social network space on Ning, Facebook (e.g. a Page), MySpace, or service or your choice. Base your network around a theme or affinity group. Upload content to your social network space.
Advanced: integrate your social network with other online activities and enhance it with additional features that keep the content fresh and relevant.
The Big Idea Behind This Lab
Like blogs, a social network website is more a way of organizing information, functionality and features in a way that offers a utility/service for facilitating online social interaction. This lab exists to familiarize you with some of the basic building blocks of an online social network and encourage you to explore the width swath of features and niche social networks available.
Basic Requirements
• Evaluate the various social networks that exist online and if you don't already have an account on one, create one.
• Setup a page/group/network to allow others to participate within a certain theme or affinity.
• Populate (upload) the site with relevant content (links, photos, videos, events, etc.) that reaches out to members (you don't need to have anyone join you, but it's a goal worth having) and keeps the site engaging and fresh.
Advanced Requirements
• Syndicate content to your social network space that when a new blog post or podcast is posted elsewhere, it is cross-posted to your social network.
• Add social functionality to your blog that promotes your social network.
• Add analytics reporting to your site, or use the built in analytics to build an activity report.
Deliverables
1. A link to your social network, or social network group/page etc., [If you find it difficult to link to this, take a screenshot and include it with your link to make sure I see your work.]
2. Include your name with your post
3. Include the name/title of what you've created as well
4. Notes on what your learned, what worked and what didn't
